Hello, I’m Dr. Pauravi Rana. Welcome to my practice.
A little about me:
After my family immigrated to the United States from Gujarat, India, I grew up in Texarkana, Texas. I received my bachelor’s degree in Asian Studies from the University of Texas at Austin in 1983, and later attended medical school at the University of Texas at Galveston. I completed my residency and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. I went on to join the UT Austin Counseling and Mental Health Center, where I worked with “longhorns” of all ages and backgrounds for 19 years.
What I do in my practice:
Most of my experience has centered around treating the psychiatric concerns of a young adult population, but I consult with and treat adults in all stages of life. My years as a psychiatrist at a busy college counseling center have put the college students’ mental health concerns at the forefront of my interest and skills. I also feel I am particularly skilled with clients from international backgrounds, but I enjoy working with a diverse array of clients.
I have broad experience treating depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and eating disorders. I enjoy educating clients who may be new to medication treatment and addressing their concerns or reservations about it. Though I do not offer specific treatment for addictions, I address self-medication issues and substance abuse issues with all clients as part of an effort to improve mental health and wellbeing as a whole with each individual. I offer comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and medication treatment according to established practice guidelines, and I make my recommendations based on a careful review of history and close listening to clients’ concerns. I like to review progress at each appointment to ensure that clients’ concerns are being addressed. I work best with clients who are looking to incorporate medication treatment alongside other therapeutic options, such as psychotherapy, lifestyle change, exercise, and mindfulness-based approaches.
